Today I took the train down to SAI Global's studio to record a narration for NetAp's new in-house corporate branding video. Everyone felt it went smoothly. but since the script keeps changing I'll likely be back soon to record the changes.

I will be cookin' up the radio waves around the nation for the next year as the "announcer" for Inside Dish with Rachael Ray. A new show on Food Network. I have no idea when or where the ads will play, but chances are that if you scan the dial for 30-something music you'll hear me eventually. This is a big deal. It's also only a one-time gig, but I'm hoping it will lead to bigger and better things (how could it not?).

If you get AMC, tune in on November 8th at 8pm and watch the Blues Brother's version of "Date Night." I'll be introduced at the beginning of the show and then comment on the scenes with the John Lee Hooker, Aretha Franklin, and the Illinois Nazis.

My improv plans have taken a bit of a tumble and I won't be performing again for a little while. I'm disappointed, but in the long run it's not that big a deal considering how much other stuff I have going on.

So much news, so little space...

MY VIDEO GAME HAS BEEN RELEASED!
That's right, from now through eternity you can play King of Fighters: Maximum Impact and hear my voice through the character Soiree! Go out and buy or rent it today!! It'll be "Phantasmagoric!"

I booked the AMC gig!
On Monday the 18th I'll be on a "date" watching the Blues Brothers. I think the only movie that I've seen more times is Blazing Saddles. This is going to be easy and fun (not to mention informative for the viewing audience as I plan to regale them with witty banter and subtle insights about the movie).

Japan loves me!
I was interviewed live during a local dodgeball tournament on Tokyo's #1 morning show. 20 million people saw me!

"Woo Hoo!" for Delaware
I went down to Philadelphia to audition for the Delaware Lottery "Woo Hoo!" campaign which basically meant straining my vocal chords as I went ballistic with joy. That's right, I spent 5 hours on trains to record "woo hoo" for 5 minutes. Fortunately it was a beautiful day to walk around and soak in some history.

To psych myself up for the audition on the walk from the train to the studio I imagined myself having the best day ever: winning $50 million... no wait... $100 million... screw that... $1 Trillion! And then I cured cancer, brought peace to the world, cleaned up the environment, and diverted an asteroid. Quite the busy, yet awesome day. The only problem was that it's exhausting to be that happy. But after some contemplation I realized that being happy all the time is like lifting a heavy weight over your head. It takes hard work and training, but it's possible.

I must look very Spanish
I was brought in to audition for another Spanish commercial. This time for a phone company. And since it was a Spanish commercial, there was dancing involved! In the audition I was told to do my best to follow along with a professional dancer, which I believe I did very well, but I felt constrained by following along rather than doing my own stuff (based on one of the dancer's moves at the lottery shoot). Sadly, I did not get the part, but I would do another commercial for them in a second.

Not quite as cool as Stormtrooper #2, but ...
I was a featured extra in the independent film Waltzing Anna. It'll most likely never hit a theater near anyone, but should you ever see it on the video shelf (or on Netflix). Order a copy and look for me in the bar scene in the first half of the movie.

"Tomorrow, be at the Northwest corner of 34th Street and 8th Avenue at 7am. A van will be waiting there to take you to Newark, NJ."

Normally I would have been quite scared of someone telling me this, but as it happened I was cast as a featured extra in a lottery commercial. The Spanish Lottery! Where else but Spain would they run a lottery commercial where a soccer player gets a red card for tripping up an opponent only to have the ref, both teams, and one goalie break out into dance? I guess it's time to update my Insights on Spain.

Unfortunately due to rain my scenes weren't shot, but I will get paid the same. Too bad, I would have loved to have been in a commercial in Spain.

This past week I also auditioned for AMC's Date Night. The concept is to set up two actors who know about movies and can talk about them in an interesting manner. Sounds like a free meal and a hearty handshake to me.

I am Soiree! I have just recorded the voice of Soiree in King of Fighters: Maximum Impact. I've never had so much fun screaming into a mic and voicing lines such as "That's some pretty phantasmagoric footwork you got there!"

Mike From Japan continues to rock the improv scene. We have an upcoming 8pm show on August 10th at Royal Wood in Williamsburg. The hilarity will be overwhelming - bring a doggy bag.

I recently traveled to Northern Spain and came back with a few insights. Click here to read them.

May 4th, 2004

Mike From Japan comes alive! I'll be appearing with my cohorts Jim Ford and Dave Warth on May 19th and May 20th at the Parkside Lounge. We'll be debuting our new improv form and entertaining a couple of sold out houses at the same time.

My dodgeball team The Artful Dodgers will be returning to the forum (with a vengeance) on May 22nd. Contact me if you want to be a part of future teams or just want to cheer us on.

Two in three weeks! I am reprising the role of "Narrator" but this time taking him to a whole new place. GOLF! My ability to "do a great job with little direction" has paid off again. Yours truly will be voicing instructions to beginner-moderate golfers in CD form!

Incase you missed the last posting on March 1st here's a quick recap:
I was up against 90 other voice over artists but was recognized for my voice's "cheerful quality."

March 1st, 2004

I have been cast as the Narrator in a 5 video series targeted towards 17-20 year-olds to teach them about banking in the 21st century. The video will be distributed to high schools, prisons and junior colleges. The hope is to enlighten people about the benefits and risks of credit cards and other fiduciary resources (and maybe teach them the word "fiduciary").

I was up against 90 other voice over artists but was recognized for my voice's "cheerful quality." I made banking sound cheerful - the impossible has been achieved.

I http://www.lippfilms.com/" target="new">Jonathan Marc Lipp Productions. I was expecting to audition for the part of Mat, a 25 year old neurotic jew, but was told that that role was cast and that they were looking for a Rich, a 30 married man with a 6 month old kid who wants to have an affair to get back at his wife for bullying him. Looks like I've got a bit of range in me. I might have even more range if I get cast as a moil (the guy who performs circumcisions) when I went in for the role of a writer.

Some of my other projects include:
  • Putting together a Guide for Brunch & Early Bird Specials eateries.

  • Freelancing as a home and office organizer.

  • Celebrating the day of the 27th Anniversary of Jimmy Carter's Inauguration
